Congress-BJP tussle over CAG’s remarks
New Delhi, Feb. 8: CAG Vinod Rai’s remarks during a Harvard lecture on Thursday, in which he suggested the government was trying to reduce the watchdog to a mere accountant, triggered a war of words Friday, with the government attacking him and the Opposition coming to his rescue.
I&B minister Manish Tewari said in Chennai it was “unfortunate” that the CAG, “rather than validating the integrity of his numbers (on Rs 1.76 lakh crore 2G loss), chooses to criticise the government on foreign soil”.
The BJP said the Congress was “misusing” constitutional authorities for political gain.
