‘Cong will get 100-120 LS seats’
Communist Party of India (CPI) general secretary A.B. Bardhan on Saturday predicted defeat of the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre and claimed an alternative front led by the Left parties would bag more number of the seats in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
“As per our assessment, the Congress would get between 100 and 120 seats while the BJP as the main opposition will do better. However, it (BJP) would not exceed 140 to 145 seats,” Mr Bardhan said.
The veteran CPI leader claimed that regional parties would post better results than national parties.
“The regional parties in the various states have a bright future. They are capable of doing very well in the next parliamentary election as people are fed up with Congress and BJP,” Bardhan said, adding that there were prospects of a new alignment of forces to form the next government at the Centre.
Stating that the Left parties will also perform better than in 2009 polls, he said this would brighten prosp-ects for a new alignment of forces to form the next government at the Centre. To a query on Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamul Congress, the CPI leader said the Left parties in Bengal were capable of excelling on their own strength.
