‘Cong weakening federal fabric’
Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, mounted a blistering attack on the Congress-led UPA government and accused it of step-motherly treatment with non-Congress ruled state.
“The UPA has one policy for Congress-ruled states and another for non-Congress states. This is damaging the federal structure of the country and also poses a threat to the unity and integrity of the nation. Raj Bhavans have also turned into extended offices of the Congress, especially in non-Congress ruled states,” he said while speaking moving a resolution on this subject on the second day of the BJP’s national executive.
The resolution was supported by Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan and deputy chief minister of Bihar Sushil Modi.
Speaking on his resolution, Mr Modi said that the Congress policies on this issue were detrimental to the spirit of the Constitution.
“Mrs Sonia Gandhi is above the Constitution. The National Advisory Commission has no business to frame new laws and the commission is cannot be above the government. Democracy is being converted into autocracy by the Congress,” he said.
Underlining his point, the Gujarat chief minister said that central assistance to non-Congress ruled states was diminishing and Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand and Bihar were suffering due to this policy.
Demanding the implementation of the Sarkaria Commission report, Mr Narendra Modi said that development was being adversely affected due to the Centre’s policy and reluctance to allow state government’s to work.
“The quota of oil to Gujarat has been slashed and the quota of rice has been cut for Chhattisgarh. The UPA government is targeting the common man by doing so,” he explained.
