Cong team may meet gov today
The Opposition Congress is likely to request governor H.R. Bhardwaj to expedite the prosecution of outgoing chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa after he was indicted by the Lokayukta in his final report on illegal mining.
Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president G. Parameshwar told this newspaper that a party delegation is likely to meet Mr Bhardwaj on Monday and request him to grant permission to Lokayukta Justice N. Santosh Hegde to prosecute Mr Yeddyurappa. “He may have resigned, but he remains an MLA. The governor’s sanction is a must for the prosecution of an MLA. So, we are seriously considering approaching the governor to give sanction for this,” Dr Parameshwar said. According to him, the resignation does not end the controversy over illegal mining. “Action has to be taken on the Lokayukta’s recommendations. Once the sanction for prosecution is given, the Lokayukta has to register a FIR and proceed with the investigation,” he said.
