Cong, SAD in blame game over 1985 deal

The Congress and the Shiromani Akali Dal have renewed their familiar blamegame accusing each other of “betrayal” and “sabotaging” the Rajiv-Longowal Accord of July 1985.
Speaking on the 26th anniversary of the historic peace accord signed between the then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and the dictator of the Akali Dal’s Dharam Yudh Morcha Sant Harchand Singh Longowal, Punjab Congress chief Capt. Amarinder Singh accused chief minister Parkash Singh Badal of betraying Longowal and deliberately sabotaging the accord for selfish politics.

Protest after convict dies in custody

July 24: After word had spread that a person in the lockup at the GRP police station in Gwalior was killed and his body was thrown into the Chambal river near Dholpur, the agitated citizens lodged their protest on the second consecutive day on Sunday by pelting stones and damaging property and vehicles parked outside the police station. The police is investigating the alleged offence.
According to reports received here, two police personnel posted at the Gwalior GRP station had told mediapersons on Saturday evening that they had detained for interrogation a pickpocket Sunil Rajawat, alias Sunil Tomar, from the Gwalior railway station on July 21.
He was later sent to the lock up on instructions of the TI. That evening, another policeman infor-med them that Sunil had hanged himself to death.

Yamuna Expressway CEO shifted
Lucknow, July 24: In less than a week after shifting the chairman of Noida Authority, the Mayawati government on Sunday removed Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority CEO Santosh Kumar Dwiwedi.
He has been replaced by Pratapgarh district magistrate Pandhari Yadav, an official spokesman said here.
Mr Dwiwedi will now be additional commissioner, entertainment tax department. Noida Authority chairman Mohinder Singh was removed on Tuesday and replaced by Balvinder Kumar, who was principal secretary, social welfare department. —PTI
