UP Cong prepares list of ‘BSP babus’
The Congress in Uttar Pradesh has started preparing a dossier on bureaucrats and police officers who are working as “political agents” of the Mayawati government and are exceeding their brief by indulging in political activities, apart from administrative work.
The move could cause considerable discomfort to the ruling Bahujan Samaj Party during the upcoming Assembly elections in UP because the Congress plans to hand over this dossier to the Election Commission as soon as the polls are announced and ensure the removal of these officers from key positions.
The Congress decision came after principal home secretary Fateh Bahadur Singh held a press conference on Friday to announce the expulsion of a BSP MLA from the party.
“Officers in UP are crossing their limits by indulging in political management for the BSP. Senior officials have been holding press conferences on behalf of the chief minister, making political statements. Officers are happily accompanying the chief minister to party functions and information department personnel are being sent to make arrangement for political meetings held outside UP,” said a senior Congress leader.
The Congress is now asking all its district units to make lists of such officers who are working as BSP agents.
“We will be putting documentary proof in the dossier for each such officer along with audio and video material wherever available. Our party workers have already got enough material in terms of photographic evidences where officers are seen touching feet of ministers and, in some case, ministers are seen touching feet of top bureaucrats,” the party leader said.
