Cong: PM statement welcome

The Congress on Saturday welcomed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s statement promising action against wrongdoers in the controversial 2G spectrum allocation. The party claimed that it was a high moral ground, which reminded of the UPA government’s decision to order a CBI inquiry into the issue.

Attacking the main Opposition BJP on the issue of corruption, the ruling Congress dared the saffron party to take action against Karnataka chief minister B.S. Yeddurappa over the allegations of irregularities in allotment of land to his kin in Karnataka.
Talking to reporters after the Prime Minister’s valedictory speech at a function here, AICC spokesperson Manish Tewari said, “The BJP is a devotee of corruption while the Congress is an epitome of morality and stands for value-based politics. Therefore, if anything emerges in the public space, which even remotely impinges on political probity, then the Congress and UPA have always acted.”
Mr Tewari also said the Prime Minister has reiterated the party’s “firm commitment” that “whoever is found guilty will not be spared”.
Mr Tewari said it needed to recall that it was the UPA government led by Dr Singh, which had ordered a “suo motu CBI probe” into the matter.
The AICC spokesperson also dared the BJP to “take action against Mr Yedduruppa”, whom he termed “the greatest land-grabber in the history of Karnataka”.
Suggesting the BJP to go in for “introspection”, Mr Tewari said it looked ridiculous when the BJP “preaches us morality”.
Meanwhile, party spokesperson Shakeel Ahmed said by casting aspersion on the PMO and the Prime Minister, Dr Swamy had done “disservice to the nation”, which is “very unfortunate”.
“If the PMO of a country with more than one billion people acknowledges every letter of Dr Swamy, it is by no means an achievement,” Mr Ahmed said, adding that, “for us, it is hats off to the Prime Minister and his office” for the splendid job they have done.
