Cong mulls action if party leaders named
A day after the Lokayukta report on illegal mining was leaked, revealing a “quid pro quo” between chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and a mining company for monetary benefits, the Congress has convened a meeting of senior leaders on Friday to chalk out its future course of action. The meeting assu-mes significance in the wake of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president, Dr G. Parameshwar’s admission that a few Congress leaders may also be indicted in the report.
Dr Parameshwar said that with Lokayukta Justice Santosh Hegde acknowledging the fact that the contents of his report had been leaked, it was now sure that the chief minister and members of his Cabinet would be indicted in the final report. “We have therefore called the meeting to work out an appropriate political strategy,” he said. Dr Parameshwar has also consulted a few legal experts on the possible fallout. Asked what the Congress would do if party bigwigs were also indicted, the KPCC chief said the party had set an example in the CWG scam by taking action against leaders involved.
“We backed Suresh Kalmadi but when we realised that he was allegedly involved in shady deals related to the Games, we stopped supporting him. Similarly, I was told that a few senior Congress leaders may be indicted,” he added.
