Cong MLAs call for overhaul of gogoi Cabinet
Problem for Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi seems to be far from over with a group of seven senior legislators led by former minister Sarat Barkatoky demanding a complete overhauling of his council of ministers on Saturday.
Mr Barkatoky, who called on chief minister on Friday with seven veteran legislators, told reporters, “We met the chief minister to advise him for taking urgent steps for maintaining discipline in the party.”
Regretting that a chaotic situation was prevailing in the state, Mr Barkotoky said, “We have advised the chief minister to take the resignation of all the ministers and re-constitute his council of ministers to strike a balance between senior and junior legislators.”
Mr Barkatoky added, “The functioning of the government is also required to be streamlined. The way things are moving in the government is not satisfactory.”
Clarifying that they are not in any camp but do have grievances, Mr Barkatoky, a veteran Congress leader, blamed the state leadership for indiscipline in the party.
“We have not lodged any complaints but given constructive suggestion to the chief minister,” said Mr Barkatoky.
The delegation of seven veteran legislators met CM a day after a delegation of nearly 10-12 legislators led by former minister Anjan Dutta called on chief minister and expressed deep anguish over the growing indiscipline in the party.
