Cong to meet on UP poll strategy
The two-day meeting of the UP Congress coordination committee that begins on Monday in Lucknow will finally decide the action plan for the state assembly elections, scheduled to be held early 2012.
Congress MP Rahul Gandhi will attend the concluding session of the meeting on Tuesday.
Talking to reporters here on Sunday, UPCC president Rita Bahuguna Joshi said that the 75 member coordination committee that includes party MPs, MLAs and senior leaders, will hold exhaustive discussions on the law and order situation in UP and also deliberate on economic issues, particularly that is related to farmers and weavers on the opening day.
“It has come to our notice that there has been a large scale misuse of central funds in UP and the state government is even taking credit for central schemes. For instance, the chief minister announced a slew of projects on her birthday but forgot to mention that the money for two-thirds of the projects comes from the Centre. We are preparing a fact sheet on this and will present the same before the coordination committee,” she explained.
On the concluding day of the meeting, resolutions — economic and political — will be passed in the presence of Mr Rahul Gandhi. The poll strategy for the party and other organisational issues will also be discussed during the meeting.
However, Mr Gandhi will not meet the press during his Lucknow visit and developments in the coordination committee will be communicated to the media by AICC general secretary in charge of UP, Mr Digvijay Singh.
