Cong: Mamata seeking ‘communal’ BJP support

Describing West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee as an “unprincipled” leader, the state Congress on Sunday slammed her for seeking support from the “communal” BJP to move a no-confidence motion against the UPA-2 government.

The state Congress also announced organising Dhikkar Divas in West Bengal on November 22 when the Trinamul Congress will move the no-trust motion in Parliament.
West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Pradip Bhattacharya said, “She (Ms Banerjee) must know that the no-confidence motion cannot be moved with just 19 MPs. The Congress-led government at the Centre cannot be toppled. Ms Banerjee is now trying to join hands with the communal BJP with which she snapped ties earlier. What kind of message an ‘unprincipled’ leader like her is trying to give?”
He added, “On November 22, we will observe Dhikkar Diwas, organise meetings and take out rallies in the state to protest the Trinamul’s move. Before that, we will hold Haldia Cholo (Go to Haldia) movement on November 20. We will hold a rally there to protest the destruction of industrial environment at the port.”
Lambasting the chief minister, Mr Bhattacharya claimed: “An aimless government is running the state. The state government has no direction, it can only give lectures. There is no weight in the comments of the chief minister who only gives threats every now and then.”
The PCC president also accused the state government of failing to utilise the Central grants for the rural development. “Union rural development minister Jairam Ramesh will visit the state on December 8 to take stock of the ground realities,” he said.
On the question of two Congress MLAs’ decision to join the ruling party, Mr Bhattacharya warned: “If anybody tries to split the Congress, it will boomerang on them later.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
