Cong-led Opp. boycotts MP House proceedings
May 11: The special session of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly, convened by the BJP-led state government to address the issue of development, began here on Tuesday under the shadow of a total boycott by the Congress-led Opposition.
Even as the Assembly session began on a tame note with only the ruling party members present along with two Opposition MLAs — Ajay Yadav belonging to Bharatiya Janshakti and Paras Saklecha, an independent member — the state Congress unit went ahead with a signature campaign and the Congress workers formed a human chain on the busy MACT-New Market road here to protest against corruption.
The Congress had earlier given the call to expose corruption at all levels — from the chief minister to ministers — by forming a human chain and collecting signatures that would be presented to the state governor. On May 1, the Congress had organised a similar protest demonstration and signature campaign in Indore.
Launching his party’s campaign here, state Congress president Suresh Pachouri came down heavily against the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government and said that the governor would be urged to seek the resignation of ministers accused of corruption on moral ground.

Maheshwar dam gets partial nod

May 11: Under pressure from the PMO, the ministry of environment and forests (MoEF) has given the green signal to partial construction of the Maheshwar dam.
The Central Water Commission had warned the MoEF that some parts of the project, including the seven gates that are now under construction, need to be completed in order to prevent the danger of flooding during the monsoons.
