Cong distances itself from Ahmed IM remarks
The Congress and the government on Monday distanced and disapproved of the remarks made by AICC general secretary Shakeel Ahmed and party MP Rashid Masood that the formation of terror outfit IM was the consequence of 2002 Gujarat riots.
When asked to comment on the Twitter post made by Dr Ahmad on Sunday, which triggered a huge political controversy, AICC spokesperson Renuka Chowdhury said, “It is not the party line as of now.” On Mr Masood’s remark, she said, the response would be same.
Ms Chowdhury, however, attacked the Gujarat government led by Narendra Modi for the riots saying the way a particular community was targeted has no parallel anywhere else. “Whatever happened in Gujarat, the manner in which people of a particular community were killed, such an incident has not happened anywhere else,” she said.
Dr Ahmed had on Sunday said on microblogging site Twitter that “Indian Mujahideen was formed after the Gujarat riots, says NIA in its chargesheet. Even now, BJP and RSS will not desist from their communal politics?” When contacted, Dr Ahmad blamed the “communal politics of BJP for the chain reaction” on the issue of terror. Even as the party distanced itself from his remark, Dr Ahmad said in his latest tweet that he was “surprised by the hype in the media” on the matter. “Surprised by the hype in media on my tweet of 21st July regarding NIA’s chargesheet. This news was there in Indian Express & ET on 20th July,” he said.Singh told reporters here.
