Cong demands judicial probe into cop's death
The Congress on Tuesday demanded a judicial inquiry into the death of a police officer who initially investigated the Banda rape case in which BSP MLA Purshottam Naresh Dwiwedi is an accused.
Inspector Radhey Shyam Shukla, associated with the rape case involving the MLA, was killed, alleged Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi.
"He died in Hamirpur on Sunday night. But the post mortem shows his ribs were broken and liver was punctured," she told reporters here.
"We demand an inquiry by a sitting high court judge into Shukla's death," Joshi said.
She said Shukla had died barely four days after his suspension was revoked and he was posted in Hamirpur.
The police officer was suspended soon after the state CB-CID submitted its report on the Banda rape case.
The state Congress chief said a party's team would visit Hamirpur to ascertain facts about Shukla's death.
