Cong calls Gujarat bandh tomorrow
The Congress party is intensifying its attack on controversial Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi. While it has given a call for “Gujarat Bandh” on Friday, party insiders are suggesting the leadership to hold a special CWC meeting in the state.
Gujarat Congress chief Arjun Modhwadia on Wednesday said the party has given a “Gujarat Bandh” call on September 6 to press the demand that the “corrupt and criminal” Modi government must go.
Though he said he had no idea of holding a special CWC meeting in the state, a section of the party MPs claimed that they have heard about it.
The Congress does not want to be seen defensive in the state which has been converted into “Modi land” from a “Hindutva laboratory”.
Gujarat has neither become Uttar Pradesh nor Bihar for the Congress despite the party being out of power in the state for more than ten years. The party may be losing the state Assembly polls but is improving in the Lok Sabha elections, pointed out party officials. Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi will be visiting Gujarat in the third week of this month to boost up moral of the rank and file in the state Congress. Mr Modi, aspiring for the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate, would not be the “unanimous choice” of the saffron party. “Atal Behari Vajpayee, L.K. Advani got projected as the BJP’s PM candidates because they are the natural leaders of the party. Their commitment inspired many in the party but Narendra Modi is failing to attain this status,” sources pointed out. Meanwhile, rejecting allegation of any conspiracy by it, the Congress on Wednesday asked the BJP to look within to find out who was behind the sting operation that allegedly caught Prakash Javadekar discussing ways to “manipulate” the complainant in Tulsiram Prajapati case.
“Some people are alleging that there is a Congress conspiracy behind the CD and 10 Janpath (Sonia Gandhi’s official residence) is behind it. We have no hand in this. Congress can never resort to such cheap tactics. “BJP should search within to find out who planned all this. Leaders of BJP keep fighting among themselves. There is fierce internal fight among them. Instead of blaming us, they should look within. There are many senior leaders in that party. They should see whether the conspiracy was planned there,” party spokesperson Meem Afzal told reporters here.
