Cong boycott Assembly proceedings
Congress on Friday boycotted the Karnataka Legislative Assembly to protest Speaker K.G. Bopaiah disallowing its adjournment motion to debate the situation arising out of the observations made by the Supreme Court while quashing his order disqualifying 16 MLAs.
Congress, which staged a walkout yesterday after Bopaiah declined permission to its leader Siddaramaiah to make preliminary submissions, stayed away from the House.
The Congress continued consultations at its Legislature Party meeting on whether to boycott the entire extended budget session, but could not arrive at a decision.
Meanwhile,Congress members in the Upper House participated in the session, where they have moved an adjournment motion over observations made by the Supreme Court against the chief minister in the MLAs disqualification case.
Siddaramaiah said the CLP will meet again and elicit views of all legislators on the next course of action the party has to take.
The JDS has boycotted both the Houses.
Unmindful of the opposition’s absence, the state Assembly on Friday conducted official business including debate on demands for grants pertaining to three departments with ruling party members C.T. Ravi, Narasimha Naik and other taking part.
Three Bills — The Karnataka Land Revenue (Amendment) Bill, 2011, The Karnataka State Minorities Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2011 and The Karnataka State Innovative Universities Bill, 2011, were introduced in the Assembly.
The Speaker adjourned the House to Monday.
