Confusion on cost to take athletes to Taj
The Organising Committee of the Commonwealth Games 2010 continues to fail to get its projections about expenditure right.
Its grand plan to take all the 5,000-odd athletes to a trip to Taj Mahal, which is less than 200 km from the city, was supposed to have cost the OC `1.75 crore. This was the estimate in June this year.
However, it is now confused over the exact cost and claims that it will work out the expenditure once the trip gets over.
According to sources, the OC has not even finalised the list of visitors who all will be taken to Taj Mahal and that is the reason that members are not sure about the expenses which will be incurred during the Taj Mahal visit.
However, the delay in finalising the expected expenditure during athletes visit to the historic monument is raising eyebrows of the agencies providing funds to the OC.
“There are also reports that the OC is planning to add a number of its top executives in the list of visitors. What is the need to take a number of people from the OC there? This will cause unnecessary expenses to the agencies involved in providing funds,” sources said.
