Comeback delayed, Srini waits for Sept. 29
President-in-exile N. Srinivasan made his much anticipated “return” when he attended the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s working committee meeting at a hotel in Kolkata on Sunday but refrained from taking the chair, possibly foreseeing legal implications.
The meeting also proposed, among other decisions, a home series against the West Indies ahead of the yearend tour to South Africa, which could possibly see Sachin Tendulkar play his 200th Test at home.
The decision to invite Mr Srinivasan to be a part of the meeting was taken by interim chief Jagmohan Dalmiya, who was in the chair, due to certain constitutional and statutory functions a president needs to discharge, which the sidelined administrator will continue to do till the September 29 annual general meeting, where he is likely to seek a year’s extension.
Mr Srinivasan, however, was his defiant self after the meeting, declaring, “I will chair the AGM (in Chennai).”
