Cold wave back across North India

The cold wave made a comeback across North India on Tuesday with minimum temperatures dipping even as fog disrupted normal life in the region.
It was a sunny but cold morning for Delhiites as the minimum temperature dropped by nearly four degrees while a layer of fog covered the city in the early hours.
The minimum temperature was recorded at 7.9 degree Celsius, one degree above normal and 3.7 degrees less than yesterday’s 11.6 degree Celsius.
The maximum temperature in the last 24 hours was recorded at 19.7 degree Celsius which is one degree below normal for this time of the year.
There was a shallow fog cover over the city for sometime in the morning but it did not have much impact on flight operations at the Indira Gandhi International Airport.
Residents of Kashmir Valley got some respite from intense cold as night temperatures rose by a couple of degrees but stayed below the freezing point across the region.
The minimum temperature in Leh town in the remote Ladakh region rose by almost three degrees to settle at minus 14.6 degrees Celsius, while in nearby Kargil town the night temperature was recorded at minus 14.4 degrees Celsius, a MeT department official said.
The disaster management cell has forecast snowfall tomorrow and day after.
Leh town on Sunday recorded this season’s lowest temperature at minus 18.8 degrees Celsius.
Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, witnessed an increase of 1.1 degrees to settle at minus 2.5 degrees Celsius, the official said.
The south Kashmir resort of Pahalgam recorded a minus 4.4 degrees Celsius, while north Kashmir skiing resort of Gulmarg, the star attraction for tourists visiting the Valley during winters, recorded a minimum temperature of minus 8.0 degrees Celsius.
Punjab and Haryana were enveloped in a thick blanket of fog even as the minimum temperatures dipped.
Fog reduced visibility at many places in Punjab including Amritsar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Jalandhar and Moga. In Haryana, Hisar, Rohtak, Karnal, Ambala, Panipat and Kurukshetra experienced fog.
Fog also made its first appearance in Chandigarh, with visibility levels dropping considerably.
