Coimbatore horror: Hired taxi driver kills siblings
Coimbatore: The body of a seven-year-old boy, who along with his 11-year-old sister was allegedly abducted for ransom and thrown in a canal by a taxi driver hired by their parents, was today fished out, a day after the elder sibling was found dead.
Hrithik Jain's body was found floating in the waters of the Parambikulam Aliyar Project (PAP) canal in Konguvarpatty, about 60 kms from here, in Tirupur district, police said.
His sister Muskan's body was recovered from the canal near Vavipalayam yesterday. The two children of a textile merchant went missing while going to school on Friday morning. Mohanraj, the taxi driver, hired by their parents to drive the children to school, was arrested on suspicion.
He confessed to kidnapping the children on the way to the school for ransom, police claimed. However, afraid of police action, he drove with the children to Pollachi where he threw then in the PAP canal at Sarkarpathy, police alleged.
The driver, who was produced in a court last night, was lodged in central prison, they said.
