Class 9 student ‘gangraped’ by 4 youth

In a a shocking incident, a Class 9 student was allegedly gangraped by four youth near the circle inspector’s office at Joynagar in South 24 Parganas on Tuesday night.

The girl, aged around 15, was returning home from her uncle’s house at Mathurapur on a cycle with a cousin. At around 8 pm, two youth intercepted them at Nimpith, sources revealed. When her cousin questioned the duo, they beat him up and abducted the girl.
The two then rang up two more youth who joined the culprits and took the girl forcibly to a garden. Threatening to kill her if she raised an alarm, the four took turns to rape the girl. At night, a complaint of gangrape was lodged at the Joynagar police station.

Till the reports last came in, no one had been arrested. The victim was sent for medical test.
Local residents alleged of lack of police patrolling in the area after sunset. While superintendent of police (South 24 Parganas) Pravin Kumar Tripathy’s cellphone was found switched off, additional superintendent of police Kankar Prasad Barui would not take his calls
