Class 4 employee does post-mortem
The lid seems to have finally blown off in the health sector in Uttar Pradesh and after the expose on sweepers stitching up wounds in Bulandshahr, yet another such incident, this one, more bizarre, has come to light.
In Meerut, a TV channel recorded a seemingly macabre scene of a class IV employee carrying out a post-mortem on a dead body in the open, outside the mortuary, even as the hapless family members of the deceased looked on.
Chief medical officer Subodh Kumar Tiwari termed the incident as “routine” and said that in cases where the bodies were decomposed, the post- mortems were usually done in the open.
“The stench emanating from decomposed bodies makes it almost impossible to do the post-mortem within four walls. Moreover, we need strong daylight for the job and there are frequent power failures in the region,” he said on Thursday. The official admitted that class IV employees helped in post- mortem but doctors were always present there.
However, in the footage shown on a TV channel on Thursday, the doctors were nowhere to be seen around the place where the post mortem was being done.
Another official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, however, admitted that post mortem were invariably done by Class IV employees who have now become adequately trained in the job.
