Chinese troops intruded again
Chinese troops transgressed again into Indian territory in the Chumar sector of southeastern Ladakh on June 17 this year, and took away a surveillance camera after dismantling the small structure on which it was mounted.
When this was detected, Indian troops lodged a protest and asked for the camera to be returned, after which the Chinese returned the camera on July 3 at a flag meeting, ahead of defence minister A.K. Antony’s visit to China.
Defence sources in New Delhi denied some reports that Chinese troops had even smashed some bunkers besides cutting the wires of the cameras, saying there were no Indian Army bunkers at that position.
There was no face-to-face confrontation betw-een Indian and Chinese troops at the spot on June 17 since Indian border patrols were not at that particular place that time. Defence sources said Indian tro-ops continue to patrol right upto the Indian perception of the Line of Actual Control. The Chinese are very sensitive about the Chumar sector as Indian defences are very close to the LAC there.
