Chinese daily: India hyping Yiwu incident
Accusing the Indian government and media of “hyping” the ill-treatment of a diplomat and detention of two Indians by Chinese traders, an official daily here criticised the advisory put out by New Delhi asking its businessmen not to trade at Yiwu citing lack of safeguards.
An editorial in the Global Times, an official organ of the ruling Communist Party of China (CPC), said Indian businessmen come on their own to trade in Yiwu and the fact that a large number of foreigners stay and do business in the trading hub, itself speaks of the security in the town.
“The Indian media has been hyping the collapse of an Indian diplomat in a court in Yiwu, Zhejiang Province. Even the Indian foreign minister reacted to the news and small- scale protest movements appeared in New Delhi,” it said. — PTI

BJP: revamp overseas department

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday demanded revamping of the government’s overseas department as well as Indian consulates across the world, citing incidents of ill-treatment of two Indian traders in China and Tri-Valley incident in the United States in which Indian students were radio tagged.
Based on the feedback it received through a survey conducted by it in five United States cities, covering around 2,000 Indians, the party said there is a need to overhaul the department of overseas Indians and the consular offices. The survey findings state that consular offices are “too bureaucratic, lack basic amenities and have other shortcomings”.
