China to unveil new leadership today
China’s ruling Communists on Wednesday unveiled a new generation of the younger leadership, including Xi Jinping and Li Keqiang, as members of the key central committee to lead the world’s second largest economy over the next decade. The CPC central committee will elect the politburo, its all-powerful standing committee and the general secretary at its first plenary on Thursday, with the 18th party congress ending its in-camera session at Beijing’s Great Hall of the People on Wednesday. “The congress elected a new central committee of the party and replaced older leaders with younger ones,” China’s President Hu Jintao said in a closing address to 2,307 delegates.

India to UK: modi passport revoked

A “note verbale” has been issued by India to the UK in a bid to seek the return of former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi, who has reportedly been staying in London for the last two years.
The move by the MEA has come after the Union finance ministry wrote to the MEA asking that it take up with the UK certain issues that are pending regarding Mr Modi’s financial transactions.
Mr Modi has been facing charges of having committed financial irregularities while conducting the T-20 cricket tournament as IPL commissioner.
Syed Akbaruddin, spokesperson for the ministry of external affairs, said on Wednesday: “We have sent a note verbale late last night informing Britain that the passport of Lalit Modi has been revoked and he is required to be in India for questioning in the economic offence-related issues.”
