China offers 5-point plan to better ties
China’s new President Xi Jinping on Tuesday unveiled a five-point formula to improve ties with India, seeking accommodation of each other’s core concerns and proper handling of differences while seeking peace on the border as a resolution of the dispute “won’t be easy”.
Mr Xi, 59, who took over as President, Communist Party head and military chief, sent clear signals he wanted better bilateral ties with India.
He said he was keen to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh next week on the sidelines of the Brics summit in Durban — his first contact with the Indian leadership after his inauguration last week.
“The border question is a complex issue left from history... solving (it) won’t be easy. As long as we keep up friendly consultations, we can eventually arrive at a fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable settlement,” Xi Jinping added.
