Child prodigy has school problem
Being a child prodigy is proving to be a curse for 10-year-old K. Visalini as the schools find her too intelligent for their education systems. Visalini has been forced to change schools year after year.
According to a retired clinical psychologist from Madurai Rajaji Medical College Hospital, Namma-lvar, who tested Visalini’s IQ, the girl’s intelligent qu-otient was 225 at three years, nine months. At nine, she again underwent an IQ test and came up with an IQ of 220.
Visalini twice got a double-promotion — in Class I in 2006-2007 and then in 2008-2009.
However, she is considered too intelligent to be handled and hence has had to move from school to school.
Her mother says she has moved seven schools as yet and is now in IIPE, a matriculation higher secondary school in Palayamkotai, in Class 8.
Her woes continue even here. “None of my classmates mingle with me as to them I appear odd. I have no friends,” said Visalini. As she is very interested in software engineering, her parents are in talks with a private deemed university — Kalasalingam University, Srivilliputhur, where another prodigy from Tirunelveli, Chandrasekar, was admitted in 2006, when he was in Class 7.
