Chidambaram’s ‘complicity’ reflected: bjp
The Opposition on Wednesday demanded home minister P. Chidambaram’s resignation over a finance ministry note to the Prime Minister’s Office on the 2G spectrum case which the Opposition claimed shows the minister’s “complicity”. While the BJP demanded CBI probe against Mr Chidambaram, the CPI sought the Prime Minister’s explanation on the issue.
“Ultimately, the cat is out of the bag. It was very clear from day one that Chidambaram agreed to A. Raja’s (former telecom minister) formula for 2G spectrum allocation. If he had stuck to the finance ministry officials position that spectrum should not be allocated in 2008 at 2001 prices the scam would not have taken place,” BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said. He insisted that the revelations have exposed Mr Chidambaram’s complicity in the 2G spectrum scam as the finance minister in the UPA-I government. The BJP was also hopeful the Supreme Court would take due note of these revelations.
In his reaction, CPI leader D. Raja said “the note cannot be ignored. PM needs to clarify as how such a multi-crore scam took place.”
He added, “Chidambaram’s position, morally speaking, is increasingly becoming untenable. His role as the then finance minister needs to be examined and questioned.”
BJP chief spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said the expose leads to a clear inference of wrong doing by Mr Chidambaram. He also sought a clarification from the minister.
