Cheran villain to daughter’s love
Chennai: He may have celebrated romance in his movies, but on Friday national award winning film director, Cheran, found himself painted a villain by none other than his daughter, who accused him of threatening an assistant director in Kollywood she was in love with.
“My father may have taken romance to great heights in movies, but real and reel life are very different” Dhamini, 20, a college student, told reporters at the city police commissioner office where she had arrived, seeking protection from her father.
A third year student of electronic communications at a women’s college in Nungambakkam, Dhamini was accompanied by the family of the assistant director, Chandrashekar, 25, who claimed to have been threatened at least twice by the famed director.
“Chandrasekar was asked to come to Kodambakkam on the pretext of sorting out the matter, but he was instead threatened by the director and a group of 15 men. Although he got away on his bike, another group later came to our house looking for him,” alleged a family member.
When contacted Cheran, who has directed films like Autograph, Bharathi Kannama and Solla Maranda Kathai, said he was in the midst of a discussion to sort out the problem with his daughter. He was later summoned by the Thousand Lights police for questioning.
