Chavan's native village erupts into celebrations
Kumbhargo, the native village of Prithviraj Chavan, erupted into celebrations on Wednesday after the news that its “son of the soil” will be the new Maharashtra chief minister reached.
The nondescript village, 20 kms from Karad city, is the native place of Chavan's father Anandrao, who was also a leading politician in western Maharashtra. "Some of Chavan's cousins still live in 'vada' at Kumbhargao," Appa Ghorpade, an acquaintance of Chavan, told PTI over phone.
It is like an extended Diwali for the villagers as the news comes couple of days after festival of lights, he said. Villagers celebrated the news by bursting fire crackers, he added.
During his visit to the area, Mr Chavan stays at his ancestral home in Karad. Kumbhargao falls in Patan tehsil, in Satara district. Late chief minister Y.B. Chavan also hailed from Karad.
