Chavan sworn in Legislative Council member
Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan was on Saturday sworn in as member of the state Legislative Council.
Chavan, who was declared elected unopposed earlier this week as the Opposition did not field a candidate against him, was administered the oath at a function at Vidhan Bhawan.
The CM, who took over the reins on November 11 last year, has now fulfilled the constitutional stipulation of getting elected to the state legislature within six months of being sworn in as chief minister.
He was minister of state in the PMO and succeeded Ashok Chavan, who resigned as chief minister over the Adarsh Housing Society scam.
Prithviraj Chavan, whose father D.R. Chavan was a Union minister and mother Premala headed the Maharashtra Congress unit, has been elected to the state legislature for the first time.
