Chautala, son taken into custody in teachers recruitment scam
New Delhi: Former Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala and his son Ajay were taken into custody on Wednesday after a Delhi Court convicted them in connection with the illegal recruitment of Junior Basic Trained (JBT) teachers.
Chautala, who is allegedly involved in recruitment of junior teachers, is likely to be sent to the Tihar Jail.
Chautala, his son Ajay and 53 others have been convicted by a Delhi court for illegal hiring of over 3,000 teachers in the teachers recruitment scam.
A Delhi Court will pronounce the quantum of punishment on January 22.
The teachers were recruited in 1999-2000 during Chautala's tenure. The CBI filed its first chargesheet in 2006.
It was alleged that Rs three to four lakhs were paid as bribe for selection of each of the 3,032 candidates.
