Charges filed against Shukla
The CBI on Tuesday filed its chargesheet against former principal secretary (health) of Uttar Pradesh (UP) Pradeep Shukla, and five others in connection with its probe related to alleged irregularities committed in the operation of mobile medical units in various districts in the state under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) programme.
The Central investigation agency has also named two private companies as accused in the chargesheet.
The agency in its chargesheet, filed in a special CBI court in Ghaziabad, has mentioned that there was a loss of around `8.16 crore to the exchequer in the contract.
Those who have been named as accused in the chargesheet include Mr Shukla, former DG Family Welfare S.P. Ram, Atul Prakash Nigam and Gobind Prakash Pandey (both senior representatives of private companies).
CBI had already questioned representatives of the private firms and Mr Shukla before filing the chargesheet in the case.
The agency also alleged that a budget of `42.68 crore was approved by the Centre under the NRHM scheme for the project of operation of mobile medical units in various districts in the state.
However, the accused public servants connived with the private companies by bending rules in favour of the private companies, sources in the agency said. Earlier, the agency had also named Mr Shukla as an accused in its chargesheet filed in connection with its probe related to alleged irregularities committed in upgradation of Modular Operation theatres in several government hospitals in the state under the NRHM.
