Centre mulling Muslim quotas, says Khurshid
Union law minister Salman Khurshid said on Sunday that the Centre was exploring the possibility of giving reservations to Musl-ims in government jobs and educational institutions. He said the Centre was closely studying the model of the Andhra Pradesh government, which gives Muslims four per cent reservation.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a meeting to show solidarity with Palesti-nians in Hyderabad on Sunday, the minister said the OBC Comm-ission will be conducting a survey to decide the percentage of reservation to be given to Muslims nationally.
“I don’t know whether it is going to be through a bill. It is not necessary to have another bill. It may be done through a government notification,” he said.
