Centre confirms more K-power to Tamil Nadu
The Centre told Lok Sabha on Friday Tamil Nadu would get relief from its power crisis with the commissioning of the Koodankulam project.
Minister of state for power K.C. Venugopal said during Question Hour: “Tamil Nadu will get more than 900 MW when the Koodankulam project is commissioned.”
The minister said the power situation in the southern state would become better once other ongoing power projects were commissioned. He said the highest-ever capacity addition of 20,502 MW in a single year was achieved during 2011-2012.
“During 2011-12, the electricity generation in the country was 876.44 billion units with a growth of 8.05 per cent over 2010-11.”
To another question, parliamentary affairs minister Pawan Kumar Bansal said the first phase of Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission targetted a capacity addition of 1,100 MW of solar power by 2013.
