Centre against me, neglecting TN: Jayalalithaa
Frustrated by the continued cold treatment by the Centre to her several requests for help in various fields, chief minister J. Jayalalithaa charged the UPA government on Tuesday for neglecting Tamil Nadu just to spite her.
“The central government seems to think that Tamil Nadu should not be allowed to flourish as Jayalalithaa will grow into a major force if all her demands are met,” she said while replying to the home department grants in the Assembly.
For instance, she pointed out, the state’s monthly kerosene quota had been halved after she assumed office and her repeated pleas for funds and electricity brought no response.
“Irrespective of the number of pleas, there has been no allocation of funds or additional electricity even as people are groping in the dark. The Centre’s actions are aimed at ensuring Tamil Nadu does not grow,” she alleged.
Also, Opposition parties and the media were always trying to find fault with her administration for selfish reasons.
Despite such serious shortcomings, her government was performing well. There was no naxal menace and the land-grab cells formed by her government restored `750 crore worth of land illegally grabbed from rightful owners, CM said.
To ensure the force remained in top gear, she announced a `1,000-crore package for improving police infrastructure over the next four years “in a futuristic manner”.
