Census in six more states to start today
New Delhi, April 30: The task of house-listing and housing census for the first phase towards preparation of the National Population Register will begin in six states on Saturday. The exercise had already been taken up 11 states and Union Territories.
The six states where the exercise will be undertaken are Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Punjab, Uttarakhand and Maharashtra. The exercise, which began on April 1, has already been taken up in West Bengal, Assam, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Goa, Karnataka, Arunachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Gujarat, Dadar and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu, Tripura and Andhra Pradesh.
Under the exercise, all personal details will be registered and everybody, irrespective of age and nationality, will be enumerated. The exercise will cover the entire population of 1.2 billion.
