CCTV cameras off the day dy CMO died in jail
The death of deputy CMO Y.S. Sachan in Lucknow jail on June 22 was a pre-meditated and planned murder.
Six of the 26 CCTV cameras installed in Lucknow jail had been shut off on June 22. The cameras that went off “due to technical snags” were the ones installed at the gate of the Lucknow jail and the entry/exit point of the jail hospital.
These were the points from which Dr Sachan was reportedly taken out of the jail before he was done to death.
According to a senior police official, when the investigating team asked the jail officials for CCTV footage to ascertain the identity of the two men who took Dr Sachan out of the hospital on that fateful day saying that he was to be taken on police remand, they were told that the cameras were not working on that day. The cameras, however, did not require any repair after the incident and have been in working order after the murder.
Another shocking revelation that has come to light is the presence of a “tainted” constable in Lucknow jail, two days prior to the murder of the duty CMO.
The cop, who is known for his proximity to a mafia don-turned-MP, had earlier been terminated for his involvement in the loot of a jewellery shop in Allahabad. He was later re-instated on the recommendations of his mentor.
The cop reportedly reached the jail in the luxury vehicle of the MP and went inside without recording his entry. He held meetings with two of the MP’s henchmen and then spoke to jailor before returning.
The investigating officials suspect that the tainted cop may have handed over a surgical blade to the assailant. Another interesting fact that has come to light is that on June 22, dinner was served to jail inmates at 4.30.pm — one and a half hour earlier than schedule which is 6 pm.
