CCS reviews all options in J&K
With fresh violence rocking Jammu and Kash-mir and more deaths reported, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) headed by Prime Minister Manm-ohan Singh met Sunday evening to review political and security measures to resolve the tense situation.
Defence sources said in New Delhi Sunday evening that no orders had been received so far from the government to put the Army on standby to stabilise the situation. The Army’s Northern Comma-nd and the Srinagar-based 15 Corps is learnt to be keeping a close watch on the situation. The CCS members reviewed the reports of intelligence agencies and the views of political parties in the state, in addition to the feedback received from the state government and the governor. It also scrutinised chief minister Omar Abdullah’s proposal to begin an internal dialogue with all shades of opinion in Jammu and Kashmir.
