CBI wants narco test on Jagan
The Central Bureau of Investigation on Monday filed a petition in the special CBI court seeking permission to conduct a BEAP (brain electrical activated profile) test, a lie detector and narco-analysis test on Kadapa MP Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy and his auditor, Vijay Sai Reddy, on the grounds that information regarding suspected hawala deals needs to be elicited.
The court has posted the petition to June 14 after the counsel for Mr Jaganmohan Reddy opposed holding any such tests.
The CBI claimed that the scientific tests are internationally acknowledged and accepted for deriving information and they cause the subject no bodily harm.
The information so obtained is not admitted as evidence in a trial but it does help the investigation, the CBI said.
Meanwhile, Mr Reddy on Monday complained to the CBI court that the jail authorities humiliated him by ignoring his special class status and his security requirements and instead brought him to the court in an ordinary van meant for undertrials.
The packed court hall was taken by surprise as the MP, who seemed very disturbed, submitted to the court that he would go on a fast unto death and would explain the reasons for it if permitted.
He had been brought to the court along with some other prisoners in an ordinary van exposing him to serious security risk, he said. Before getting into the vehicle he had questioned the jail authorities about the vehicle. “I am an MP and president of YSR Congress party and they humiliated me by bringing me in a van. I am not a criminal and charges against me have not yet been proved,’’ he told the court.
He refused to return to the jail in the same vehicle, and told the court that he would sit in the court if need be.
After hearing him out, the judge enquired with CBI counsel, who maintained that they were not concerned with it.
The judge observed that Mr Reddy could be provided an exclusive vehicle and escort if rules permit this, in view of the law and order situation. Mr Reddy finally had his way and left the court about one-and-a-half hours later, after Nampally inspector Ch. Sridhar informed the court that a bullet-proof vehicle was arranged to shift him to jail.
