CBI uploads new most-wanted list
Around three weeks after it withdrew the “most-wanted” list from its website, following its incorrect mention of an accused who was found in Mumbai’s Arthur Road prison, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday uploaded an updated list having 143 names.
Sources in the agency said, “The updated list include names of December 1995 Purulia arms drop case accused Kim Davy, whose extradition proceedings are pending in a Denmark court, and Ravi Shankaran, an accused in the Naval War Room leak case”.
“Details of only 143 persons, against whom red corner notices (RCN) are still pending, have been placed on the website after due verification by the agency. These persons are wanted by the CBI,” sources said.
Talking to this newspaper, Central Bureau of Investigation spokesperson, Dharini Mishra said, “RCN subjects wanted by the state police and other agencies are being updated and will be published in the website later.”
In May, the CBI faced criticism for providing the name of a convict, Feroz Rashid Khan, in the fugitive list handed over to Pakistan whereas that person was found lodged in Mumbai’s Arthur Road prison.
Following the goof-up, the agency swung into action and suspended an inspector and transferred a superintendent of police and a deputy superintendent of police allegedly responsible for the goof-up.
