CBI snubs Raja, turns down request for time

Dec. 21: The CBI had on Tuesday reportedly turned down the request of the former telecom minister, Mr A. Raja, seeking 10-day time to report to the premier investigating agency for questioning on the 2G spectrum allocation scam.

Mr Raja will appear before the CBI on Friday. Mr Raja, who is camping in Chennai, will leave for Delhi on Thursday. Mr Raja said he had received a letter from the premier investigating agency “last week” asking for his presence for questioning in the 2G spectrum case.

Pleading personal work and health check-up (for which he was visiting Apollo hospitals on Monday morning), Mr Raja said he had replied to the CBI’s letter requesting them to indicate “the next date” he could make himself available for interrogation, which was turned down.

Meanwhile, the CBI for the first time on Tuesday questioned the corporate lobbyist, Ms Niira Radia, in connection with its probe into the 2G spectrum scam involving Mr Raja.

The CBI officials questioned Ms Radia for nearly four hours at her Chhattarpur farmhouse. Sources said that she may be questioned again. The agency had earlier registered a case against unknown officials of DoT and unknown private persons, companies and others under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act in connection with alleged irregularities in the allotment of 2G spectrum licences.

According to sources, Ms Radia was asked questions related to her bank transactions.
