CBI sets runner after Jagan for summons

The Special Court for CBI cases on Monday directed Income-Tax officials to serve a notice on Kadapa MP Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy by special messenger as he was not present at his residence and his counsel was not accepting it either.
The court was hearing a petition by I-T officials from Bengaluru who had sought copies of all documents seized by the CBI in Mr Reddy’s asset case.
Earlier, following an objection by the YSR Congress chief’s counsel that the information couldn’t be furnished without issuing a notice to Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy, the court had directed I-T officials to serve him a notice as the CBI had said that it did not have any objections.
It directed that the notice be served by a special messenger as officials had maintained that Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy was not present at his residence and his counsel too was not accepting the notice.
Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh Income-Tax department has also filed petitions in the Special Court for CBI cases seeking copies of the documents seized by the CBI pertaining to Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy’s case.
The officials submitted to the court that they had approached the CBI for the same but were told to approach the court. They maintained that they required copies of the documents to complete pending Income-Tax assessments of Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy and the companies owned by him and Emaar Hills Township Private Limited by December 31 as mandated by the law.
The Special Judge for CBI cases, Mr B. Naga Maruthi Sharma, posted the case to November 2 for hearing.
The CBI had filed an FIR against Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy on August 17 for cheating, criminal conspiracy, criminal breach of trust and under the Prevention of Corruption Act following the directions of the AP High Court.
