CBI set to auction assets of accused
Having failed to nab her even after launching a year-long manhunt, the CBI has now initiated the process of auctioning the properties of Indira Bishnoi, key accused in the infamous Bhanwari Devi murder case of Rajasthan. Indira Bishnoi, sister of former Congress MLA Malkhan Singh, is absconding ever since the agency solved the mysterious murder of the 36-year-old auxiliary nurse-cum-folk singer, Bhanwari Devi, in January 2012.
Probe had revealed that Indira was part of the conspiracy hatched to abduct and kill Bhanwari Devi, sources said. The agency officials had questioned family members of Indira also in this regard. Probe also established that the conspiracy to kidnap and eliminate Bhan-wari Devi was hatched on August 8, 2011 in Jodhpur.
“Former minister Mahipal Maderna, former MLA Malkhan Singh and his sister Indira Bishnoi were part of the conspiracy. Maderna allegedly hired Sahi Ram Bishnoi for `50 lakh to get a CD, allegedly showing Maderna in compromising position with the folk singer. When Bhanwari refused, Shahabuddin and Sohan Lal, both hired by Sahi Ram, allegedly strangled her in a Bolero jeep”, sources said.

Convict’s wife, mother find solace in prayers
ANAND S.T. DAS
PATNA, SEPt. 11
Constant prayers to the divine powers amid an atmosphere of disbelief and disappointment in their home and village is how the Bihar-based family of Delhi gangrape accused Akshay Thakur is spending their time since he was convicted along with three other accused.
On Wednesday, a faint relief came for 28-year-old Thakur’s wife Punita Devi, who is 23-years-old like the hapless Delhi girl gangraped and killed by her husband and five other men in December 2012, when she learnt that the quantum of punishment for the convicts would be announced on Friday. For villagers in Lahangkarma village, all waiting with painful suspense for the judicial punishment Thakur would get, the temporary delay in sentencing by the court was quietly welcome like a breath of fresh air. “I hope God will be kind for me, my little son and my family,” she said, clutching her two-year-old son Priyanshu as Thakur’s ageing mother, Malti Devi, cried inside.
