CBI to send request letter to Switzerland
The CBI is to send a letter of request (LR) to Switzerland authorities for knowing the details of M/S Swiss Timing, the company that has been booked by the agency for alleged irregularities in connection with the contract awarded to it for time, scoring and result (TSR) system for the Commonwealth Games.
The investigating agency had on Tuesday booked secretary-general of the organising committee (OC), Lalit Bhanot and director-general V.K. Verma in connection with the alleged irregularities in awarding a contract to M/S Swiss Timing. Both are closed aides of OC chairman Suresh Kalmadi. Besides, the Switzerland-based company was also booked by the CBI.
According to sources, the agency is now planning to send a LR to the authority concerned in Switzerland to know details about functioning of the company. It will be sent very soon, sources said, adding that the agency will also start questioning of those booked by the CBI in this connection, including Mr Bhanot and Mr Verma. The agency is also expected to make arrests in connection with its probe into the case very soon, sources said.
Sources further said, “The probe into the alleged irregularities committed in awarding CWG contracts related to the Delhi government, Delhi Development Authority (DDA), Sports Authority of India (SAI), Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and other government departments will also begin soon.” While the SAI had awarded contracts worth `2,460 crores to different contractors for several Games venues, the DDA had awarded contracts worth `827 crores (excluding CWG village), sources said, adding that the Delhi government had awarded contracts worth `700 crores.
“The agency has received a large number of complaints of irregularities related to contracts awarded by the SAI, the DDA, the Delhi government and the MCD. These are being verified. The complaints include those sent by the CVC also”, sources said.
Besides, the agency is also expected to lodge an FIR in connection with irregularities related to overlays contracts.
