CBI to scrutinise rail appointments
The CBI is all set to seek an explanation from Rahul Bhandari, private secretary of the former railway minister Pawan Kumar Bansal, and Kul Bhushan, currently a Railway Board member, in connection with its investigations into two preliminary enquiries (PEs) registered against them by the end of this week.
Sources said, “CBI sleuths have collected documents related to certain appointments made in the railway ministry during the tenure of Pawan Kumar Bansal from the ministry. These documents are being scrutinised”. The CBI will soon seek clarification from Mr Bhandari, a 1997-batch Punjab-cadre IAS officer, in this regard.
The agency recently registered two PEs to probe the alleged irregularities committed in awarding certain contracts and in the appointments and promotions of senior officers in the railway ministry during the tenure of former railway minister Pawan Kumar Bansal. The PEs have been registered against Mr Bhandari and Kul Bhushan.
Role of Mr. Bhandari is being probed by the CBI in certain appointments and promotions made during Bansal’s tenure, sources said. The CBI collected all relevant files related to appointments and promotions of senior officers, the details of which emerged in the phone calls intercepted by it.
