CBI: OC officials paid contractors in advance
Probe by the CBI in connection with alleged corruption in the Commonwealth games (CWG) has revealed that certain officials of the Organising Committee (OC) allegedly made advance payments, ranging from 50 to 100 per cent, to some contractors even before completion of projects.
According to sources probe has revealed that OC members made advance payments to contractors in at least six games related projects. The agency’s probe has prima facie found serious indications that there was a “criminal conspiracy” between the contractors and certain members of the OC.
“The agency is expected to register fresh FIRs in this connection. If required, CBI sleuths may question certain former officials of the OC in this regard,” sources said. “Probe has also revealed that even after selection of vendor, the signing of the contract took several months. The agency officials are scrutinising contract documents related to Games Time Website contract,” sources added.
The agency is also probing several other contracts where fake quotations were reportedly submitted by the non-existent vendors in connivance with the OC officials, sources said. These contracts include, civil electrical work, procurement of synthetic carpets for ceremonies, T-shirts, caps and ties, sources added.
Probe by the CBI has also revealed that the quotations for supply of automatic binding machine were submitted by three vendors.
The agency officials reviewed the comparative quotations of other two vendors which revealed that both vendors were found to be having the same address, sources said. This is a sheer violation of the established norms, sources added.
