CBI, NIA at loggerheads in Ishrat case
The two Central probe agencies, the NIA and the CBI, are at loggerheads ov-er the issue of sharing the confessional statement of 26/11 terror accused Pakis-tani-Ameri-can terrorist David Colem-an Headley about the ante-cedents of Ishrat Jahan, who, along with three others, was killed in an alleged fake encounter on June 15, 2004.
The CBI is contemplating taking legal opinion on the NIA’s aversion to share the confessional statement of Headley with it for its probe into the Ishrat Jahan encounter case. The NIA has reportedly cited a confidentiality pact between India and the US that the statement will not be shared with anyone. The CBI had written to NIA seeking sharing of the statement to check the veracity of the reports claiming that Ishrat had links with the LeT.
The agency has been pressing for handing over Headley’s confessional statement to ascertain facts whether Ishrat had links with LeT.
