CBI must take over entire Adarsh probe
A PIL filed in the Bombay High Court has demanded that Central Bureau of Investigation should probe the entire Adarsh Housing Society scam, in which officers from both the state as well as the central government are suspected to be involved.
City-based activist Simpreet Singh, who has filed the PIL, had earlier registered a complaint with the state Anti Corruption Bureau against former Maharashtra Chief Minister and current Union Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde and a few IAS officers with regard to Adarsh scam.
However, the petition now contends that CBI would be better suited to probe the case, as 'very powerful persons from Maharashtra government are involved...in case the State Anti-Corruption Bureau is required to conduct the investigations, the same is likely to be assailed by the crisis of credibility'.
Petition demands that the court direct the CBI to take over the entire case, instead of probing the roles of only the defence ministry officials.
"Three Chief Ministers, namely, Sushil Kumar Shinde, Vilasrao Deshmukh and Ashok Chavan are likely to get affected. That being so, it may be very tough for the Maharashtra State Anti-Corruption Bureau to investigate the case with impartiality", the PIL said.
