CBI finds IB officer dictated Ishrat draft
Sensing a conspiracy behind the controversial (first) affidavit of the ministry of home affairs filed in the Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case in 2009, the CBI, in the course of its probe, found that a senior Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer already under the scanner of the agency had allegedly dictated the draft of the affidavit.
In its first affidavit, filed before the Gujarat high court on August 6, 2009, the MHA termed the four as Lashkar-e-Tayyaba (LeT) operatives and justified the encounter.
In a second affidavit, filed September 29, 2009, the MHA said there was no conclusive evidence to suggest Ishrat Jahan was a terrorist.
“There were contradictions regarding the antecedents of Ishrat in the two affidavits. The agency is collecting more evidence to nail the officer responsible for drafting two different affidavits in the Ishrat case,” sources in the agency said.
The role of a senior IB officer is also being probed by the agency in this regard, sources said, adding the CBI has gathered evidence also in this connection.
The probe agency suspects this act was part of the conspiracy which led to the encounter. Ishrat Jahan, Javed Sheikh, alias Pranesh Pillai, Amjadali Rana and Jeeshan Johar were killed in an encounter near Ahmedabad on June 15, 2004.
